About Us
Ruben and Karen Popet started Beraca Foundation in the beginning of 2000. They were given some land in Ruben’s hometown, Jdioara, Romania, where they built an orphanage to be a home for 20 children. Along with the orphanage, the Popets opened a free medical clinic, started a small farm and gave English lessons to people in Jdioara. Plus, they were part of the planting of a non-denominational church in the nearby town of Lugoj. Since 2000, other opportunities to serve the village of Jdioara as well as Romania have been started by the Popets.

Here is a description of the ministries that Beraca Foundation (Ruben and Karen Popet) have in Romania:
- Orphanage: Our vision for the orphanage is to take care of the physical needs of the children as well as to minister to their spiritual and emotional needs. We provide them with a safe and family-like atmosphere where they can grow and mature. We also offer each one the opportunity to continue their education after high school by going to college, university or a trade school.
- Medical Clinic: Once a week, a doctor comes to our medical clinic to see people of our village free of charge. She also distributes medicine as needed free of charge to the people. Beraca Foundation pays for the doctor and medicine. It is a way to share the love of Jesus with the people of the village.
- Farm – Near the orphanage is our small farm where we have cows, pigs, chickens and rabbits. The vision for the farm is to help supplement the food for the orphanage as well as to provide a way for the children to learn good work ethic and responsibility.
- Noul Legament church – The church was planted in Lugoj by a parent church in Timisoara. We have been taking our children since the beginning. We participate in Sunday morning services, youth group, seminars and as many extra things that the church has as we can.
- English lessons – The children start taking English in school now at a young age so there isn’t a need to do extra lessons with them. So, we only do lessons if someone comes to us for help.
- Food Bank – For the last two years, Beraca Foundation has been providing food for 15-20 poor families in Lugoj (a nearby town) on a weekly basis. We purchase the food and then make food boxes to take to the families.
- Widows – Each year Beraca Foundation provides firewood for around 10 widows. They also help them with food baskets several times a year as well as supplying medicine or other needs that they may have.
- Pesac – This village is near Timisoara and has two streets where 160 children live. They are extremely poor and have no hope. We have started to do a children’s program there as often as we can. We also take about 25 of the children to a camp that we put on especially for them each summer. Plus, we give those who went to camp a backpack for school. We also take food and clothing to them each year.
- Funds for school/university - Beraca Foundation pays for several young people who have a desire to continue their education but don’t have the money to do so.
